    Imaam Sufyaan Ath-thawri (rahimahullaah) said:

    The one who sits with a person of innovation is not safe from one of three (affairs): "[1] Either he becomes a trial for other than himself; [2] Or something of (misguidance) falls into his heart, so he slips by way of that and Allaah enters him into the hell fire; [3] or he says: By Allaah, I don’t care what they say because I am sure of myself;” but whoever feels safe about his religion (without Allaah’s guidance, protection etc) in the twinkling of an eye, it will be snatched away from him."

    Yazeed Ibn Hakeem (rahimahullaah) used to say:

    "I have never feared anyone, more than my fear of a man whom I oppressed and I know that he had no helper except Allaah, and he says to me, "Allaah is sufficient for me, and between me and you is Allaah (i.e. Allaah will judge between us)."

    The Precious Remembrance

    “Alif Laam Meem This is the Book that contains no doubt, guidance for those who fear Allah. Those who believe in the unseen, who establish the daily prayers and spend from what We have provided them with. Those who believe in what was revealed to you and what was revealed to those before you, and they are filled with conviction concerning the hereafter. They are upon guidance from their Lord, and they are the successful.”
    [Soorat-ul-Baqarah: 1-5]

    Abdullah bin Mas’ood- may Allah be pleased with him - and it has been ruled as being marfu’oo1 that he said:

    “Whoever recites ten verses from Soorat-ul-Baqarah at night time the shaytaan will not enter the house that evening until the morning, (also) the first four verses of Soorat-ul-Baqarah, Aayat-ul-Kursee and the two verses after it, in addition to the three last verses of Soorat-ul-Baqarah beginning with:
    {…To Allah belongs what is in the heavens…} And in another narration: “…shaytaan or anything he dislikes will not come near him nor his family that day, and it is not recited over a mentally ill person except that he will recover from his illness.”

    (1) T.N. Al-Khateeb (rahimahullah) said: “It is what has been narrated by a companion directly from the Messenger (may the peace & blessings of Allah be upon him)”. Al-Baa’eeth-ul-Hatheeth Page 54.

    At-Tabaraanee related it in his Kabeer as #8673, and al-Haythamee said in his Majma’ (#17014): “The men of this narration are the narrators of the Saheeh except that ash-Sha’bee did not hear directly from Ibn Mas’oud.”

    The Past is gone forever, Today is all you have!

    By brooding over the past and its tragedies, one evinces a form of insanity - a kind of sickness that destroys resolve to live for the present moment.

    Those who have a firm purpose have filed away and forgotten occurrences of the past,
    which will never see the light again, since they occupy such a dark place in the recesses of the mind.

    Episodes of the past are finished with; sadness cannot retrieve them, melancholy cannot make things right, and depression will never bring the past back to life. This is because the past is non-existent.

    Do not live in the nightmares of former times or under the shade of what you have missed. Save yourself from the ghostly apparition of the past.

    Do you think that you can return the sun to its place of rising, the baby to its mother's womb, milk to the udder, or tears to the eye? By constantly dwelling on the past and its happenings, you place yourself in a very frightful and tragic state of mind.

    Reading too much into the past is a waste of the present. When Allah mentioned the affairs of the previous nations, He says: "That was a nation who has passed away." [Quran: 2:134]

    Our tragedy is that we are incapable of dealing with the present: neglecting our beautiful castles, we wail over dilapidated buildings.

    If every man and every jinn were to try jointly to bring back the past, they would fail because that is an impossibility. Everything on earth marches forward, preparing for a new season and so should you.

    Today is all you have

    When you wake up in the morning do not expect to see the evening - live as though today is all that you have. Yesterday has passed with its good and evil, while tomorrow has not yet arrived. Your life's span is but one day, as if you were born in it and will die at the end of it.

    With this attitude, you will not be caught between an obsession over the past, with all its anxieties, and the hopes of the future, with all its uncertainty.

    For today only should you expend energies, concerns, and efforts. In this day you should pray with a wakeful heart, recite the Qur'an with understanding, and remember Allah with sincerity. In this day you should be balanced in your affairs, satisfied with your allotted portion, concerned with your appearance and health.

    Organise the hours of this day, so that you make years out of minutes and months out of seconds. Seek forgiveness from your Lord, remember Him, prepare for the final parting from this world, and live today happily and at peace. Be content with your sustenance, your wife, your children, your work, your house and your station in life.

    "So hold that which I have given you and be of the grateful."
    [Quran: 7:144]

    Live today free from sorrow, bother, anger, jealousy, and malice.

    You must engrave onto your heart one phrase: Today is my only day. If you have eaten warm, fresh bread today, then what does yesterday's dry, rotten bread and tomorrow's anticipated bread matter?

    If you are truthful with yourself and have a firm, solid resolve, you will undoubtedly convince yourself of the following: Today is my last day to live.

    When you attain this attitude, you will profit from every moment of your day, by developing your personality expanding your abilities, and purifying your deeds.

    Imam Al-Awzai’s Letter of Warning against Heresy and Heretics

    It is reported that Imâm Al-Awzâ’î (d157H) wrote:

    O Muslims, fear Allâh and obey Him, and accept the advice of the sincere advisers and the exhortation of the exhorters, and know that this knowledge is religion, so be careful about what you do [in it] and from whom you take [it] and who you follow and who you trust your religion to. For verily, the followers of Bid’ah are all falsifiers and liars, neither are they careful nor do they fear and protect [against wrongdoing], and nor are they to be trusted to not distort what you hear. They say what they know not when criticizing and decrying or when affirming their lies. But Allâh encompasses what they do. So be on guard against them, suspect them, reject them and distance yourselves from them, for this was what your earlier scholars and the righteous latter ones did and instructed others to do.

    Beware of rising against Allâh and becoming instruments in the destruction of His religion and undoing its handholds by respecting the innovators, for you know what has come down to us about respecting them. And what stronger respect and veneration can there be than taking your religion from them, following them, believing them, being close to them and helping them in alluring those they allure and attracting those they attract of the weak Muslims towards their ideas and the religion they practice? This is enough to be considered a partnership and contribution to what they do.

    Racism and Tribalism


    Allah says:

    "O mankind! We have created you from a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that you may know one another. Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you. Indeed, Allah is Knowing and Acquainted. Verily, Allah is All-Knowing, All-Aware." (Quran 49:13)

    Prophet Muhammad (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said:

    "All mankind is descended from Adam and Eve, an Arab is not better than a non-Arab and a non-Arab is not better than an Arab; a white person is not better than a black person, nor is a black person better than a white person except by piety and good actions. Learn that every Muslim is the brother of every other Muslim and that Muslims form one brotherhood." (Narrated in Mosnad Ahmad, #22978)

    Muhammad Ibn Saaleh Al-Uthaymeen (rahimahullaah)


    In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

    A person is exposed to trials as long as his soul is residing in him, and because of this I advise myself and you (all) that we constantly ask Allaah for firmness upon Imaan and that we fear for ourselves. That is because there are slides under your feet and if Allaah (The Mighty and Majestic) does not keep you firm, you will fall into destruction. Listen to the statement of Allaah (Glorified and Exalted Be He) to His Messenger (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam), who is the firmest and the strongest in Eemaan amongst the creation:[1] "And had We not made you stand firm" upon the truth and prevented you from responding to their claims, "You would have nearly inclined to them a little" due to (their) numerous manipulations and your love that they be guided (to the right path). [2]

    This noble ayah makes explicitly clear the Messenger’s innocence from inclining towards the disbelievers a little let alone inclining towards them; because [لَوْلاَ (i.e. And it not )] is a particle that necessitates negation of the occurrence of something, so the phrase ‘you would have nearly inclined’ is negated by the particle [لَوْلاَ ] due to Allaah’s bestowal of firmness to the noblest person amongst His creation [i.e. Muhammad (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam)]. So it is established with certainty that he never inclined towards them the least let alone inclining towards them. [3]

    And if it is the case that the [firmness of the Messenger (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) is dependent on Allaah’s bestowal of that firmness], then how about us—the ones weak in their Eemaan and certainty, whilst we are openly exposed to affairs of falsehood that are made to resemble the truth and lowly desires. Therefore, we are in great danger and we are obligated to ask Allaah for firmness upon the truth and that He does not cause our hearts to deviate (due to our own faults, sins and transgressions). "Our Lord! Let not our hearts deviate (from the truth) after You have guided us, and grant us mercy from You. Truly, You are the Bestower". [4]

    Shaikh Rabee Bin Haadi (may Allaah preserve him) said:

    ”If you see a person upon truth and another upon falsehood, it is obligatory that you aid the truth and warn against falsehood; if not, then you are dead-neither recognizing good nor rejecting evil and this is a sign of the heart’s hardness.”

    Soft Poison

    It is reported that ‘Alî b. Abî Tâlib
    (Radiallahu `Anhu) wrote to Salmâm Al-Farsî (Radiallahu `Anhu) saying:

    The likeness of this worldly life 'Dunyâ' is that of a Snake (soft to the touch) it will kill you with its poison. So turn away from what impresses you of it, since what stays with you is so little. And do not be concerned about it, since you are certain about its parting. And be most happy in it when you are most heedful of it, for every time its companion takes solace in one of its delights, it gives way to one of its woes.

    Allah's Punishment for Whoever Speaks Bad of Islamic Scholars


    Whoever speaks ill of the (righteous) scholars, Allaah will give death to that person’s heart before He will give death to that person


    Imam Ahmad said "Whoever speaks ill of the (righteous) scholars, Allaah will give death to that person’s heart before He will give death to that person."

    Student of knowledge Abu Uwais read from the work of Shaykh Sultan ibn ‘Abdur-Rahman Al-’Eid (rahimahullaah), and from that beneficial lesson were the following statements:

    Hafidh Ibn As-Saakir (rahimahullaah) said:

    The flesh of the scholar is poison… and Allaah (exposing) removing the cover from the one who belittles the scholar, this is well known. And talking about them in a manner in which they are innocent is a tremendous (horrendous) affair. And to eat of their honor with lies is a matter that is shameful. It is known that Allaah causes the heart (of the one who does this) to die before their body dies.

    And they only harm themselves, and they acquire humiliation, because "Truly, Allaah defends those who believe" (Quran 22:38). And Allaah will not allow any good to come from the actions of the evil doers.

    Those who find fault with the scholars of Tawheed – the scholars of the Sunnah – are the people of plotting and deceit. If they are not able to say directly (out loud) what they want to say, they will say it indirectly. So pay attention to this, ya ‘ibadullaah, so you will not be deceived.

    Imam Ibn Mubarak (rahimahullaah) said: He who belittles the scholars, he will lose his hereafter.

    Imam Ahmad (rahimahullaah) said: The flesh of the scholars is poisonous (to eat [by slandering]).

    The Consequences of Intentional Killing in this life and the next

    In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

    Imaam Ibnul Qayyim (rahimahullah) said: Killing (out of) intentional transgression is connected to (violation of) three rights:

    The First Right: The Right of Allaah (The Most High); because he (the person) commits what Allaah has forbidden.

    The Second Right: The Right of the one killed; because he (the killer) killed him without right and transgressed against him.

    The Third Right: The Right of his (i.e. the victim’s) relatives (or heirs).

    As for (violating) Allaah’s right, it ceases through repentance. As for (violating the) rights of relatives, it either ceases through retribution, payment of blood money or pardon. As for the right of the one killed, it remains upon him (i.e. the killer) until the Day of Judgment, then the killer and the killed will be given their due in full in the presence of Allaah and He will judge between them with His just judgment.

    Sincerity In Seeking Knowledge

    Ibnu Jamaa'ah (rahimahullaah) stated about sincerity in seeking knowledge: "It is to have a good intention in seeking knowledge-seeking the face of Allaah by way of it; acting upon it; reviving the sharee'ah; enlightenment of the heart and (rectification) of its hidden affairs; seeking to get close to Allaah on the Day of Judgement, and putting one's mind to that which Allaah has prepared for its people of His Pleasure and Great Favors."
