Suspected to be cow thieves, two youths lynched in Bengal’s Jalpaiguri district

The incident comes close to heels of an incident in June, where three Muslim youths were lynched by villagers at Durgapur under Chopra police station in North Dinajpur on suspicion of cattle theft.

Two persons, suspected to be cow thieves, were lynched by villagers near Dhupguri of Jalpaiguri district in West Bengal early on Sunday. The victims hailed from Assam and Coochbehar district in West Bengal. In a similar incident this June, three Muslim youths were lynched in Chopra, North Dinajpur.

The bodies have been sent for post mortem and we have started an investigation,” said a senior police officer of Jalpaiguri district. According to police sources, the incident took place at around 3 am in Dadon 2 village about 15 kms from Dhupguri town.
The victim were travelling on a pickup van through the village at night.

The van had seven cows in it. The van somehow lost its way and kept circling the area. Alerted by the noise of the van, the villagers tried to stop it, but the vehicle sped off.
Later locals blocked the road and forced the van to stop. Two of the passengers were caught by villagers while the driver of the van managed to flee.

Villagers then questioned the two for some time and then lynched them on suspicion of being cattle thieves. The victims have been identified as Hafizul Sheikh of Dhubri in Assam and Anwar Hussain of Patlahawa in Coochbehar.Later police recovered the bodies and rushed them to a local hospital. But they were declared brought dead.According to the police, it is not confirmed that the victim’s were cow thieves or cattle traders who bought the cattle from a market in the area.

We are considered pious but we live as prostitutes: Read full text of Sadhvi's letter that nailed Ram Rahim

Read the full text of the letter anonymously written by the sadhvi who had been raped by Dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim. This letter led to conviction of Ram Rahim 15 years later.

Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim has been boastful of his political connections and absolute power. He used to tell his followers that he was the most powerful and equal to God.

Ram Rahim unleashed a reign of terror at the Dera Sacha Sauda. But, a letter, written anonymously by a sadhvi , brought the Dera empire of Gurmeet Ram Rahim down.

Fifteen years after the letter was written, addressed to the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Gurmeet Ram Rahim was convicted by a CBI court. Ram Rahim is currently lodged in the Rohtak jail in Haryana.

Here is the full text of the letter under whose the mighty godman of Dera Sacha Sauda crumbled and lost his empire:

    To,

    Honourable Prime Minister

Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee (Government of India)

Subject: Request for probe into rape of hundreds of girls by Dera chief (Ram Rahim)

I am a girl hailing from Punjab and I have been serving as a sadhvi at Dera Sacha Sauda, Sirsa (Haryana) for the last five years. There are hundreds of other girls, who serve for 16-18 hours a day at the Dera. We are being physically exploited here. Dera Maharaj Gurmeet Singh rapes girls at the Dera. I am a graduate girl. My family members are blind followers of Maharaj (Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh). I became a sadhvi at my family's bidding.

Two years after I became a sadhvi, Maharaj Gurmeet Singh's close woman-disciple Gurjot told me one night around 10 pm that I had been summoned to 'Gufa' (residence of Gurmeet Ram Rahim). As I was going there for the first time, I was elated that God himself had sent out for me. When I went upstairs, I saw Maharaj sitting on the bed holding a remote control in hand and watching a blue film on TV. Beside his pillow on the bed, lay a revolver. Seeing all this, I was stunned, felt dizziness, and felt as if the earth has moved from beneath my feet. I wondered what at all was happening here.

I had never imagined that Maharaj would be such a person. Maharaj switched off the TV and seated me beside him. He offered me water and said that he had called me because he considered me very dear to him. This was my first day (experience).

Maharaj took me in his arms and said that he loved me from the core of his heart. He also said that he wanted to make love with me. He told me that at the time of becoming his disciple, I had dedicated my wealth, body and soul to him and he had accepted my offering. By this logic, your body is mine now.

When I objected he said, "There is no doubt that I am God." When I asked if God also indulges in such acts, he shot back:

    1. Sri Krishna too was God and he had 360 gopis (milkmaids) with whom he staged Prem Lila (love drama). Even then people regarded him as God. This is not a new thing.

    2. I can kill you with this revolver and cremate you here. The members of your family are my devoted followers and they have such blind faith in me that they are my slaves. You know it very well that your family members cannot go against me.

    3. I have considerable influence in the governments. The chief ministers of Punjab and Haryana, and central Ministers touch my feet. Politicians seek my support and take money from me. They cannot take any action against me. We will get your family members dismissed from government jobs. I will get them killed and wouldn't leave any evidence behind. You know it very well that I had got Dera manager Fakir Chand killed earlier. No one knows anything about him till date. Neither there is any evidence of the murder. By money power, I can buy politicians, police and justice.

Thus, he raped me. For the past three months, my turn comes every 25-30 days. Now, I realise that he has been raping other girls staying with him.

Around 35-40 women living at the Dera are over 35-40 years old and past the marriageable age. They have compromised with their lives at the Dera. Most of the girls are educated and have secured BA, MA, BEd degrees. But they are living a life of hell at the Dera because their family members are fanatic followers. We wear white clothes, cover heads with scarf, forbidden to look at men and keep a distance of 5-10 feet from men as per Maharaj's commands.

We appear like devis (pious women), but our situation is that of prostitutes. I tried once to tell my family members that all was not well at the Dera. But, they got angry with me saying that if God's company is not worth enjoying then which place would be. It seems your mind has become corrupt, recite the name of satguru (the real teacher), they told me. I am helpless. I have to obey every command of the Maharaj.

No girl is permitted to talk to another. As per the commands of the Maharaj, girls are not permitted to talk to their families even over telephone. If a girl talks about the reality of the Dera, she is punished under the commands of the Maharaj. Just a few days ago, a Bathinda girl spoke about the wrongdoings of the Maharaj, she was thrashed by women-disciples. She is still bed-ridden at her home due to this assault. Her father has left his service as a sevadar (servant of Dera). She is not telling anyone anything for the fear of Maharaj.

Similarly, a girl from Kurukshetra district has also left the Dera and went back home. When she narrated her sufferings at the Dera to her family, her brother who worked as a sevadar, gave up his job. When a Sangrur girl left the Dera, went home and narrated the wrongdoings at the Dera to the people, the Dera's armed sewadar hooligans visited the girl's home and threatened to kill her. They warned her not to tell anyone anything about the Dera.

Similarly, girls from Mansa, Ferozepur, Patiala and Ludhiana districts (of Punjab) have gone back home and are keeping mum as they have threat to their lives. Same is the fate of girls from Sirsa, Hissar, Fatehabad, Hanumangarh and Meerut who are not uttering a word due to muscle power of the Dera goondas.

If I reveal my name (and) my address, my family and I will be killed. I can't keep quiet and I also don't want to die, but I want to expose the reality (of Dera). If a probe is conducted by the press or some government agency, 40 to 45 girls - living in utmost fear at the Dera -, if they are convinced, are willing to tell the truth.

Our medical examination should be conducted so that our guardians and the people would know whether we are still celibate disciples or not. If we are no longer virgins, it should be probed as to who violated our chastity. The truth will then come out that Maharaj Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh of Sacha Sauda has ruined our lives.

Indian journalist opposed to deporting Rohingya killed

DELHI: Just a few hours before her murder in Bangalore on Tuesday, allegedly by Hindu right-wingers, Gauri Lankesh, a secular journalist and civil rights activist, spoke up for the rights of Rohingya Muslims in India.

“Are Rohingiya ‘terrorists’ killing Hindus and burning their homes and temples?” she tweeted, citing an article in Quint news magazine about fake news being used to incite anger against the minority in India.

“She took a strong line against the deportation of Rohingya from India and their genocide in Myanmar,” said Kavita Krishnan, a prominent civil rights activist and secretary of the All India Progressive Women’s Association. Lankesh’s killing “is an attempt to strike terror in the heart of dissent,” Krishnan added.

Lankesh, 55, was found lying in a pool of blood on her doorstep in the city of Bangalore. She was returning home from work when she was gunned down by three men who came on a motorcycle in the early evening in front of her home in Bangalore.
She was an editor of Gauri Lankesh Patrike, a popular weekly magazine in the local Kannada language.

Her killing has sparked outrage across India, with civil rights activists, journalists and others taking to the streets in protest. But the government has remained largely silent.

MP Smriti Irani tweeted a condolence message, but “such tweets are meaningless,” said Krishnan.

“There are Twitter handles followed by (Prime Minister Narendra) Modi that are busy celebrating Lankesh’s death.”

When contacted by Arab News, many members of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) refused to comment.

When asked about Lankesh’s opposition to deporting Rohingya, Rakesh Sinha, director of the India Policy Foundation — a think tank promoted by the BJP — simply said: “It’s not good to go into specifics.”

The BJP’s ambivalence about the killing of a prominent voice of dissent has not gone down well with opposition leaders.

Krishnan said “a strong section of media in India” is also “responsible for creating an atmosphere where any political dissent is termed anti-national.”'

Modi landed in Myanmar for talks with its leader Aung San Suu Kyi on the same day Lankesh was killed.

Targeting Muslims - A question that India needs to answer

The writer is a syndicated columnist and a former member of India’s Rajya Sabha

    By Kuldip Nayar - October 6th, 2011

I owe it to Barkha Dutt who brought out in a recent programme of hers how 21 Muslim youth from Hyderabad were wrongly implicated in the Mecca Masjid blast. That was not all. They were subjected to third degree torture, which was done to force them to admit to a crime which they had not committed. The government failed to find any evidence against them and said sheepishly that they were arrested on wrong grounds.

This only confirms how the police in India picks up young Muslims whenever there is a blast. Most in the majority community are so biased that they accept the official version readily. The truth is out only when the authorities failed to prove the charges. In this case, they remained in jail for five years. In fact, the credit goes to the court which acquitted them.

The National Commission for Minorities (NCM) has recommended a compensation of Rs 300,000 each. The victims have justifiably expressed cynicism over the NCM’s decision. How can money erase the stigma which they will carry for the rest of their lives?

The Muslim youth have gone on record to say: every time there is a festival or trouble in the city, the police come looking for us. We are falsely implicated in the first place and even after acquittal we carry the stone of anti-national around our necks.

Dr Junaid, who runs a clinic at Hafizbanagar in the old city of Hyderabad regrets that the “payment of a few lakhs cannot make up for the sufferings we underwent because of our religion.”

Naturally, Muslims wonder whether secularism means anything when it comes to punishing Hindus. What happens to equality guaranteed by the constitution of India?

This is the question which India has to answer. Take the case of Gujarat. Even 10 years after the killings, there is no real punishment. How does the Muslim community put faith in the polity? The tamasha that chief minister Narendra Modi puts up every now and then does not impress anyone about the sudden rekindling of faith in communal harmony. He is not even sorry.

When this incident came to light, parliament was in session. No member mentioned it either in the Lok Sabha or in the Rajya Sabha. There was a short debate on the Gujarat government’s action against two senior police officers who have redeemed the honour of the force to some extent by exposing Modi’s complicity. One of them, Sanjiv Bhatt was first suspended and now prosecuted for having filed public interest litigation (PIL) in the Supreme Court against Modi’s involvement in the state riots. Bhatt’s conscience stirred him after some years and he submitted an affidavit to say what he had seen. The other officer, Rahul Sharma, DIG, was given notice for passing on telephone call records of certain BJP leaders to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) appointed by the Supreme Court.

Strange, the SIT has been dissolved without the Indian public knowing the contents of its report. The Supreme Court has also sent the case back to the trial court for hearing. The judgment is faulty but the worst part is that the court has not commented on what the two officers disclosed. At least their submissions should have been noted because they dared the state government.

No doubt, small mercies, but Home Minister P Chidambaram has at least said that the centre had the option of protecting the officers who belonged to the all India Police Service under the supervision of the central government. As expected, the BJP jumped at Chidambaram’s throat. How can a step to protect the officers be taken as interference in the state affairs? Understandably, the BJP is trying to save Modi. But the party should realise that he would be punished, however late.

Why doctors have a problem with 'Gabbar'

The Indian Medical Association wants a particular sequence shown in the Akshay Kumar-starrer censored.

    12-05-2015

The Indian Medical Association (IMA) - the trade union of doctors - is upset over a particular sequence shown in Akshay Kumar-starrer Gabbar is Back and wants it censored. It has circulated the "offensive" clip among its members and has asked them to boycott this and other movies of Akshay as well as producer Sanjay Leela Bhansali. I have seen the clip in which doctors at a corporate hospital are seen indulging in unethical and fraudulent practices. Akshay Kumar rushes to a hospital with a person on a stretcher - who is already dead - and requests doctors to save his life. Doctors examine the person and find him to be dead but still they start "treatment" and make Akshay Kumar pay up two lakh rupees for the services of a specialist. After several hours of this drama, doctors inform him the patient could not be saved.

Though this sequence may appear exaggerated, it is bound to ring a bell in the minds of people. We hear stories of how hospitals keep clinically dead people "alive" on ventilators - either to make money or under pressure of family members. The practice of ordering costly medicines and disposables from hospital pharmacy, as shown in the movie, is too common. Real life testimonies of doctors and patients about corruption in medical profession in Aamir Khan's television show, Satyamev Jayate were bone chilling.

Many television channels have recently done sting operations on pathological labs and diagnostic centres to expose widely prevalent "cut" system. The commission system has been exposed by doctor whistle-blowers themselves in a recently published monograph titled "Voices of Conscience from the Medical Profession" in which 78 doctors have shared their personal experiences. Some of them had to shut their practice because they refused to yield to corrupt lobbies.

By demanding a ban on such shows or movies, IMA is shying away from the real issue and missing the larger picture. If the association is really concerned about the image of doctors and medical profession, it should stop living in denial. Let's first accept that there is a serious problem, identify and name the black sheep and then take action against them. No point in just blaming reel life depiction of medical profession. After all, movies are a reflection of the society. In 1960s-70s, Indian movies typically had a family doctor who was held in high esteem and was friendly.

Even hospitals had sociable staff and service environment. Doctor-patient relationship was based on honesty and faith. Today that's not the case. It has become a relationship between a commercial service provider and a consumer. Media, movies and literature can't be faulted for reflecting this changed relationship. Only by decommercialising the doctor-patient relationship will we be able to restore faith in it. As noted physician Vikram Patel last week wrote in medical journal, The Lancet, illness in India is now caught in a "medical industrial complex".

Hindu Terrorists: Attempt to poison 4000 Madrassas students foiled by young student

    Highlights:

    • The madrassa is a house for at least 4,000 children which Salma Ansari heads in Aligarh run by Al Noor Charitable Society.
    • Salma Ansari has called this incident ‘shocking and scary’.
    • After the incident, students were not allowed to drink water from that tank.
    • Former Vice President Hamid Ansari have been criticised by ultra nationalsts and BJP for raising minorities issues

Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh: Reports of an attempt, to “mix rat poison” in the water of two water coolers at a madrassa in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, a charitable institution called Madrassa Chacha Nehru. The miscreants tried mixing tablets of rat poison into the water of two tanks frequented by almost 4,000 students at the madrasaa, which incidentally is run by a charitable organisation headed by Salma Ansari, the wife of former vice-president, Hamid Ansari.

Fortunately, one of the “miscreants”[terrorists] was spotted mixing the poison by a student Afzal who was asked to keep quiet after threaten with a country made pistol by the criminals [terrorists]. The water cooler has been sealed, and samples sent to forensic laboratory for testing.

The madrasa warden, Junaid Siddiqui, said that Afzal had gone to drink water at the cooler, when he spotted both the criminals attempting to mix some powder into the water cooler. He immediately informed the madrasa warden, who later informed the police.

Although a FIR has been filed against two unidentified persons under Sections 328 (causing hurt by means of poison) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code, this seems to be a narrow escape for the children at Chacha Nehru madrassa, run by Aligarh’s Al Noor Charitable Society, run by Mrs Ansari.

Salma Ansari, has called the incident “shocking and scary” and has asked the warden to install CCTV cameras .

Chief medical officer at Aligarh’s J N Medical College, Dr Ehtisham Ahmad, said that though rat poison can’t prove fatal to human beings until it is mixed with an anticoagulant (substance that prevents or reduces coagulation of blood), it could have made the students sick. “A lot, however, would depend on the quantity of rat poison mixed in the water,” he added.

Hamid Ansari had faced a flak from several BJP leaders, including current VP Venkaiah Naidu, after Ansari, in the last days of his tenure, said Muslims in India were experiencing “a feeling of unease, a sense of insecurity is creeping in”. He was trolled and a vile campaign against him was unleashed on social media.

When Saudi Arabia Banned Beef Imports from India!

    July 5, 2017

MUMBAI: On August 7th 1983, Saudi Arabia banned beef imports from India. According to late Maulana Abdul Karim Parekh of Nagpur, several Hindu beef exporters rushed to their Arab clients accompanied by Deputy Commerce Minister in Union Cabinet Mr.P A Sangma, to plead with them to revoke the ban.

They assured the Arab clients that they are exporting only Halal beef to them.

Such ban on Indian beef exports by Saudi Arabia first time acknowledged that large quantities of beef had been exported from India to Arab nations and most of the beef exporters were Hindus.

Such Saudi ban on Indian beef, cancellation of orders, sudden embargo on deliveries from India, mostly affected Hindu exporters who were very active at government and political front for requesting Arabs to resume beef imports from India.

Muslim Nations followed the etiquettes of Sharia, which is followed in every step of life. Such Sharia rules and etiquettes are also followed in food and slaughtering of animals.

Only Halal way of slaughtering was permitted by Islam. Arab nations stipulated that Beef of only those animals which are slaughtered through Halal Islamic traditions will be allowed in their country.

During that time, ‘Deonar’ slaughter house in Mumbai and other new slaughter houses had adopted electric shock system of slaughtering, wherein, the animals were given electric shock before slaughter.
Muslims in Mumbai and other parts of India resented and opposed this system explaining that this process is against the Halal slaughtering tradition.

Arab Nations, on such reports, suggesting that Halal system is not followed in India while slaughtering the animals, banned imports of beef from India during that time.

    comments:

Hindu terrorists are killing Muslims in India left and right under the pretense of cow slaughter crime and yet the hindus are are the largest beef exporters in India and perhaps the world. Saudi and arab nations could send a strong message by banning their beef for the oppression of Muslims. Muslims should do their own boycott if the gov'ts don't do it.

India to supply arms to Myanmar despite Rohingya genocide

    Sep 21, 2017

India is considering supplying arms to Myanmar’s government in a sign of strong support for a neighbour that faces criticism for its crackdown on Rohingya Muslims.

The arms were discussed during a visit by the chief of Myanmar’s navy, Indian officials said on Thursday. The two sides also talked about training Myanmar sailors on top of the courses taught to its army officers at elite Indian defence institutions.

India’s decision to discuss enhancing military cooperation with its eastern neighbour appears part of a push to counter Chinese influence in the region.

It comes at a time when Western countries are stepping up pressure on Myanmar’s government for violence against Rohingya Muslims in its northwestern Rakhine state.

Myanmar rejects the charge, saying its forces are tackling insurgents of the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army who it has accused of setting fires and attacking civilians.

Britain said this week it was suspending its training programme for the Myanmar military, demanding it take steps to end the violence against civilians.

On Wednesday, the commander-in-chief of the Myanmar navy admiral Tin Aung San met Indian defence minister Nirmala Sitaraman and the chiefs of India’s army, navy and air force.

The two sides are discussing the supply of offshore patrol boats, a military official said. The Myanmar navy chief also visited the naval ship building site in Mumbai as part of the four-day trip that ends on Thursday.

“Myanmar is a pillar of our Look East policy and defence is a large part of the relationship,” said the official.

In 2013, India offered to supply equipment such as artillery guns, radars and night vision devices to Myanmar’s army. Since then, the focus has shifted to naval cooperation as India seeks to push back against Chinese influence in the region.

The two sides are expected to increase coordinated patrols in the Bay of Bengal that help the two navies operate together.

“The fact that the Indian government is receiving a high level military officer at a time when the international community is criticising the military sends out a signal,” said K Yhome who specialises on India’s neighbourhood policy at the New Delhi-based Observer Research Foundation.

“The message is (that) India is with the Myanmar government so far as the Rohingya issue is concerned,” he said.

Since the crisis erupted in Rakhine last month, New Delhi has been supportive of de facto leader Aung Saan Suu Kyi, condemning insurgent attacks on security forces that prompted a military crackdown against the Rohingya.

Only later as international criticism mounted, India expressed concern at the flight of hundreds of thousands of refugees into neighbouring Bangladesh.

China has also stood by the Myanmar government
. This week foreign minister Wang Yi told UN secretary-general António Guterres that it supported Myanmar’s efforts to protect its national security and opposes recent violent attacks in Rakhine.

It doesn't matter what their religion or country is, the kuffar are united in their war on Muslims.

Allah’s Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said: ‘Imminently, there will come a time when the nations gather against you, just as people gather around a feast.’ A man said, ‘Will it be because we are few at that time, O Allah’s Messenger?’ He responded, ‘No, you will be numerous in those times, but you will be as useless as the scum of the sea, and Allah will remove the fear that your enemies used to posses from you from their chests, and He will place al-Wahn in your hearts’, it was said, ‘What is al-Wahn?’, he responded, ‘Love of life, and hatred of death.’ Narrated by Thawdan (radhiallahu anhu); Reported by Ahmad, Abu Dawud

Hindus did the same thing to Christians in Orissa that they did to the Muslims in Gujarat. Hindu neighbors turning on their neighbors, rapes, murders, forced conversions, burning of houses and places of worship.

Convert or we will kill you, Hindu lynch mobs tell fleeing Christians

As a fresh wave of sectarian violence is unleashed across the Indian state of Orissa, Gethin Chamberlain talks to homeless survivors in Kandhamal district who were forced to abandon their religion

By Gethin Chamberlain - Saturday 18 October 2008

Hundreds of Christians in the Indian state of Orissa have been forced to renounce their religion and become Hindus after lynch mobs issued them with a stark ultimatum: convert or die.

The wave of forced conversions marks a dramatic escalation in a two-month orgy of sectarian violence which has left at least 59 people dead, 50,000 homeless and thousands of houses and churches burnt to the ground. As neighbour has turned on neighbour, thousands more Christians have sought sanctuary in refugee camps, unable to return to the wreckage of their homes unless they, too, agree to abandon their faith.

Last week, in the worst-affected Kandhamal district, The Observer encountered compelling evidence of the scale of the violence employed in a conversion programme apparently sanctioned by members of one of the most powerful Hindu groups in India, the 6.8-million member Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) - the World Hindu Council.

Standing in the ashes of her neighbour's house in the village of Sarangagada, Jaspina Naik, 32, spoke nervously, glancing towards a group of Hindu men watching her suspiciously. 'My neighbours said, "If you go on being Christians, we will burn your houses and your children in front of you, so make up your minds quickly",' she said. 'I was scared. Christians have no place in this area now.'

On her forehead, she wore a gash of vermilion denoting a married Hindu woman, placed there by the priest at the conversion ceremony she had been obliged to attend a day earlier, along with her husband and three young children. 'I'm totally broken,' she said. 'I have always been a Christian. Inside I am still praying for Jesus to give me peace and to take me out of this situation.'

She and her neighbour, Kumari Naik, 35, gazed forlornly at the charred remains of the house. The mob that arrived one evening in the first week of the violence, armed with swords and axes, had looted what they wanted before dousing the building with petrol and setting it alight. Kumari had fled into the nearby forest with her husband, Umesh, and 14-year-old son Santosh. A smoke-damaged child's drawing of Mickey Mouse pinned to one wall was all that remained of their former lives. Shattered roof tiles crunched underfoot as the women moved through the blackened rooms.

The priest had given them cow dung to eat during the ceremony, they said, telling them it would purify them. 'We were doing that, but we were crying,' Jaspina said.

The roads between the villages are rough and potholed, adding to the difficulties in accessing what is already a remote region, a six-hour drive from the state capital, Bhubaneshwar. The remoteness has undoubtedly played a part in the continuation of the violence, making it harder for police to move about quickly, even if they were minded to do so. Christian leaders, though, have accused the authorities of dragging their feet, claiming they are reluctant to antagonise the majority Hindu community in the run-up to parliamentary elections next year.

Relations between the Hindu and Christian communities were already at a low ebb when the killing of VHP leader Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati on 23 August provided the trigger for the current wave of violence. The VHP blamed Christians and the mobs descended on the homes of neighbours and friends. Those who were too slow to get away were killed. Amid the savagery, two incidents stood out: a young Hindu woman working in a Christian orphanage was burnt alive and a nun was gang-raped.

Yet the VHP is unrepentant and appears to be involved, at least at grassroots level, with the campaign of forced conversions. One priest who converted 18 Christians in the village of Sankarakhole last week told The Observer that he had been approached by local VHP representatives to carry out the ceremony.

'The VHP people came with letters that said they wanted to be converted, so I converted them,' said Preti Singh Patra, who is the brother of a senior VHP official. Crouching on the ground in front of his temple, set in a small walled garden beneath a huge banyan tree, he ran through the details of the ceremony: first some fruit to eat, followed by a mixture of cow dung and urine mixed with milk and curd, a dip in water from the Ganges, an hour of prayers and then the painting of a bindi on the forehead.

Some local men stepped forward to speak to him. 'Don't say too much,' they warned. The priest seemed unconcerned. The 18 had been the only Christians in the village, he said. They were happy to convert.

Around the village, the countryside is a sea of green, a beautiful lush vista that offers, at a distance, no clues to the turmoil. Yet up close it is a landscape scarred by the ugly remains of homes and churches which lie shattered between other houses still inhabited and unscathed, those belonging to Kandhamal's Hindus.

A few miles down the road from Sankarakhole, in the village of Minia, Sujata Digal, 38, stood outside her own burnt-out home. The mob had arrived at 3am, she said. She and her husband Hari hid in the forest and watched the house burn. When they came out of the forest, the mob returned and told them to convert, and it was not a hard decision.

'They said, 'If you don't become Hindu, we'll burn your houses too and start killing you',' said Ashish Digal, the former Christian pastor. 'I've been forced to convert. Everyone is being converted. They beat us in the fields. I went to the temple. We had to say that we belonged to the Hindu state of Orissa, and that from this day we are Hindus.'

Before the violence started, Christians outnumbered Hindus in Minia: now 115 have converted, roughly half of their original number. The rest have fled.

    Burn your Bibles
, the men told Ashish Digal. He told them he had, but hid them instead. Every couple of days people come to his house to search, hoping to catch him out. Those people are not strangers; they are his neighbours.

They had been sitting idly in the main road when The Observer's car pulled up. Now the young driver, Sudhir, was rushing down the path that led to what remained of Sujata Digal's house, holding his head, visibly shaken. 'We must leave now,' he said.

He had been standing by the car when the men closed in around him. They left the talking to Prashant Digal, a teacher and organiser for the local VHP youth wing. 'Why did you bring these people here?', he demanded, punching Sudhir in the head. 'Take the vehicle and go. Leave them here for us.' They surrounded him, a young Hindu, and slapped him around again. No one came to his aid. 'If you stay, we will burn you with them in the car. You will all be killed. Just leave them,' they told him. But he did not, which was a decent thing for a frightened boy to do. He drove a little way down the road and parked around a corner, out of sight, and came back to raise the alarm.

Back on the main road, the men were waiting. 'Put your notebook and your cameras away. You will take no pictures and record nothing,' the VHP man said. 'You want to know what is happening? Now I will tell you why this is happening.' He blamed the Christians for taking the jobs of Hindus, for the murder of the Swami. The only solution was for Christians to convert, he said. 'This is a Hindu community. Everyone can stay here, as long as they are part of that community. And now you should go.'

Churches burnt as anti-Christian violence hits eastern India

    by Rachel Stevenson - 1 September 2008

Four more churches in eastern India have been burnt after a week of religious violence that has driven thousands of people from their homes and into hiding.

At least 14 people have died in attacks by groups of Hindus, who went on the rampage after a Hindu leader was killed last week.

Reports say more than 60 churches in the state of Orissa have been burnt and around 3,000 homes have been destroyed as mobs tore through mainly Christian villages.

Hindu and Christian leaders have been appealing for calm, but violence spread to new parts of the state over the weekend.

Police confirmed four churches, in the districts of Koraput and Rayagada, were set on fire by mobs.

Local newspapers reported that further churches and houses had been burnt in other districts, and there were reports that more bodies had been found.

The violence has forced at least 6,000 people to take shelter in government camps. Around 5,000 more are believed to be hiding in forests around Kandhamal.

Religious violence has hit the tribal regions of Orissa for years, with Hindus and Christians fighting over conversions.

Christians account for around 2.5% of India's population, but the percentage in the Kandhamal area is much higher as a result of conversions to Christianity.

Hindu groups accuse Christian priests of bribing poor tribes and low caste Hindus to change their faith, while Christians claim Hindus convert willingly to escape the complex caste system.

The latest violence erupted after the murder of the Hindu leader Swami Lakshmananda Saraswati, along with four other activists from the hardline Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) party, last Saturday.

The VHP originally claimed Christians were to blame for the deaths, but Maoist guerillas have since claimed responsibility.

The violence has drawn international condemnation, including from the pope. The Italian foreign ministry said it would summon India's ambassador to demand "incisive action" to prevent further attacks against Christians.

No more 'Present sir', MP school students to answer roll call with 'Jai Hind'

Students of Satna district in Madhya Pradesh will be the first to say 'Jai Hind' from October 1.

    Sep 13, 2017

    After compulsory flag hoisting introduced
in Madhya Pradesh schools in January, the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government will make Jai Hind mandatory for all students from November to mark their attendance.

Satna will be the first district where this practice will be introduced from October 1 - a month before implementing the same in all the schools across the state, after getting a nod from the state cabinet.

School education minister Vijay Shah said the decision was taken to instill a sense of patriotism among students.

"Jai Hind is acceptable to students of all religions so I have decided to introduce it. We just want to keep our culture alive which our young generation is forgetting," said Shah.

A section of educationists and also the Opposition Congress leaders say they feel the government should focus more on improving the quality of education and results than introducing Jai Hind.

Madhya Pradesh Youth Congress president Kunal Chaudhary said, "We don't have any problem with chanting Jai Hind but school education department's main job is to provide quality education for better future of students and they have failed in their task. Instead of concentrating on what student should wear, chant and which culture they should follow the government should improve the condition of schools and education system."

MP Teachers' Association general secretary Ashutosh Pandey said, "The government is instilling a feeling of patriotism forcefully. If they really want that students feel proud on our country, they should provide them best education and facilities. The term is not enough to make students patriotic."

According to a study by the Child Rights and You (CRY), 94% schools in the state have "significant infrastructural gaps" in compliance of the Right to Education Act, 2009, even six years after the act was implemented.

In a recent example of poor state of education, the National Institute of Open Schooling found irregularities in the results of Class 10 and Class 12 board exams as hundreds of students passed the exam without even taking it.

Virginity tests conducted on over 400 prospective brides in Madhya Pradesh

    Bhopal, June 8, 2013

It seems that controversies will not go away from Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan's pet scheme - Mukhyamantri Kanyadan Yojna, aimed to help girls from poor families tie the knot at government expense.

On Friday, officials in Betul district allegedly conducted virginity/pregnancy tests on more than 450 prospective brides, of whom over a dozen were detected to be pregnant.

The district administration has ordered an enquiry into the matter but maintained no direction was given to the officials to conduct virginity/pregnancy tests.

On Friday, Betul district administration organised a mass marriage ceremony under the Mukhyamantri Kanyaadan Yojna in village Hardu, that comes under Chicholi Block.

For the mass marriage ceremony, more than 400 brides in traditional bridal finery - gilded sarees and gold jewellery arrived, while grooms, mostly came in three-piece suit and safari suits.

However, minutes before the exchange of garlands, and after completion of other registration formalities, district officials asked prospective brides to go through virginity/pregnancy tests if they wish to avail benefits of the MKY scheme.

Quickly, under the presence of two district health workers - J Budholiya and Durga Malviya alleged virginity - pregnancy tests were conducted on over 400 prospective brides.

On the grounds of suspicion, we conducted pregnancy tests on the brides, health worker Durga Malviya told newspersons in village Hardu.

The tests revealed nine of them were pregnant, said an official.

After the tests by district officials on the brides was over, chanting of vedic hymns begin and over 380 brides belonging to different caste and communities garlanded and tied the magalsutras, with officials pronouncing them to be husband and wives before the sacred fire.

Local legislator Gita Uike (BJP), who along with scores of government officials present during the occasion said she will take up the matter with the district collector.

She said she wanted to know the rules under which any tests were conducted on women who had come for the mass weddings.

Local legislator Gita Uike (BJP), Vijay Shah former Minister and other government officials were also present during the occasion.

However, the collector said no virginity test was conducted, but added that some couples who tried to drew benefits of the scheme through unfair means were stopped.

"No direction was given to the officials to conduct virginity/pregnancy tests on the women who had come to take part in the weddings under the scheme. However, we have ordered an enquiry into the matter. The enquiry will be conducted by Neha Marwiah, Upper Collector and report will be presented in seven-days," Rajesh Prasad Mishr, Betul collector said. And on the basis of the report, action will be taken against the guilty, he said.

This is not for the first time, when the local authorities ordered the virginity and pregnancy tests to weed out already-married brides and Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan's flagship scheme has landed into trouble. In 2009, Shahdol district administration has conducted virginity and pregnancy tests on the 152 prospective brides, of whom 14 were detected to be pregnant.

Moreover, reports of fake marriages and middlemen taking commission to produce married couples as unmarried to get their marriage solemnised and drew monetary benefits have often come into news.

The state has received irregularities-related complaints against Mukhyamantri Kanyadan Yojana in over a dozen districts.

This scheme has been launched on the special initiative of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan for helping poor families get rid of this worry in April 2006.

Marriages under the scheme are solemnised free of cost and all arrangements are made by the district administration.

Every bride is also provided assistance in the form of household items to the tune off Rs.9,000 and Rs.1,000 for bearing the expenses to attend a mass marriage ceremony, said an official.

The scheme aims to solemnise the marriage of daughters/widows/deserted women belonging to economically weaker sections and disabled category.

Between Apirl 1 2006 till this date, 1,60,977 mass marriages were solomenised under this scheme, the official added.

Caught Honeypreet Having Sex With Ram Singh, They Used to Sleep in Gufa: Ex-husband

The estranged husband said that Ram kept six couples in the Dera Sacha Sauda headquarters as if it was a Big Boss house.

    September 23, 2017

Honeypreet Insan’s former husband Vishwas Gupta on Friday levelled scandalous allegations against jailed rapist godman Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh and his adopted daughter Honeypreet.

Addressing a press conference, he said he had caught Ram having sex with Honeypreet. He claimed his ex-wife used to sleep in the “gufa” at the Dera Sacha Sauda headquarters in Sirsa.

“Honeypreet slept in Ram's bed and had sex with him too. I saw her naked with Baba
,” he said, adding that Ram Rahim would ask him to stay out of his room while she was inside with him and warned him to not tell anyone about it.

“Since 2009, Honeypreet was living with Ram as his de facto wife. You can check the Dera records. Prior to 2009, only men were given top roles in the management. After 2009, women, including Honeypreet, started taking on important roles," he said.

The estranged husband said that the Baba kept six couples in the Dera Sacha Sauda headquarters as if it was a Big Boss house.

Gupta further alleged that Honeypreet was not legally adopted by the Dera chief and the two had threatened him on several occasions.

He said he had married Honeypreet in 1999 on the direction of the Dera chief before filing for divorce in 2011. He had accused the two of adultery in his divorce petition.

“I had to suffer so much under him. They filed a fake dowry case 11 years after my marriage. In the end, I had to ask for forgiveness reluctantly,” he said.

But even then his problems did not end. Gupta said that even after moving out of the Dera headquarters, the godman kept a track of his movements and posted his henchmen near his house in Sector 15, Panchkula.

Ram's adopted daughter Honeypreet is on the top of the most wanted list in Haryana. She has been absconding since the evening of August 25. She had accompanied the disgraced godman from Sirsa till the CBI special court in Panchkula where he was convicted on two counts of rape.

She even accompanied Ram in the government helicopter from Panchkula to Rohtak as he was being shifted to the prison near Rohtak.

The Haryana Police has booked Honeypreet Kaur for sedition and for being involved in an alleged conspiracy to help Ram escape after his conviction. The police have issued a lookout notice against her and raids are being conducted in various states to nab her.

On Thursday, Haryana and Rajasthan police teams carried out a joint search operation to trace Honeypreet, but the close confidante of jailed Dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh remained elusive.

Gujarat Pogrom: Hindu Pigs raped and murdered Muslim families...

I Couldn’t Even Tell Them I Was 5 Months Pregnant Because Their Feet Were On My Mouth

    2/15/2016

“All the 4 men of my family were killed brutally. The women were stripped naked and raped by many men. They caught me too. My 3-year old daughter, Saleha, was in my arms. They snatched her and threw her into the air with all their might. My heart broke as her little head shattered on the rocks. Four men caught me by the arms and legs and many others entered me one by one. When satisfying their lust, they kicked me and beat my head with a rod. Assuming that I was dead they threw me into the bushes.

Four or five hours later I regained my consciousness. I searched for some rags to cover my body, but couldn’t find any. I spent a day and a half on a hilltop without food or water. I longed for death. Finally I managed to find a tribal colony. Declaring myself as a Hindu I sought shelter there.

Those men were using such foul language, I can’t repeat it ever. In front of me they killed my mother, sister and 12 other relatives. While raping and killing us, they were shouting sexual abuses. I could not even tell them that I was five months pregnant because their feet were on my mouth and neck.

The conviction and imprisonment of my rapists do not mean the end of hatred. But it does mean that somewhere justice can succeed. I have known the men who raped me for many years. We sold them milk. They were our customers. If they had any shame, they would not have done this to me. How can I forgive them?”

    – Bilkis Bano, 2002 Gujarat riots victim, who fought for ten years on her own, to ensure that her rapists were convicted.

‘I was raped every night for 8 months, baba supplied school girls to politicians’

The fake godman allegedly confined the girl illegally for over 8 months and raped her on several occasions.

The Uttar Pradesh police have arrested a self-proclaimed godman, Baba Siya Ram Das, for allegedly raping a teenaged girl repeatedly.

The fake godman allegedly confined the girl illegally for over 8 months and raped her on several occasions. According to the victim, she was raped by other disciples of the fake godman as well.

Cops said that the victim was allegedly sold by her relatives to a female disciple of the baba for Rs 50,000. The victim was initially taken to Lucknow and then to Mishrikh-based ashram where she was raped by him.

According to the victim, Das also filmed an MMS of her and threatened her with dire consequences if she revealed about the happening to anyone. From Mishrikh, she was taken to Agra-based ashram where she was allegedly raped by other men every night during her 8-month stay.

The baba raped her again when she returned to Mishrikh. She, however, got hold of his mobile phone and called the police from the ashram.

Baba Siya Ram Das has also been accused of running a sex racket through a girls’ school owned by him. The victim has alleged that the students of the school were not only raped, but also supplied to politicians and bureaucrats.

The Sitapur police have filed a rape case against the fake godman and initiated a probe into other allegations against him.

The self-proclaimed godman has, however, denied all allegations, and claimed to have never met the victim in the past.

India’s Hindutva extremists cheer on Myanmar's radical Buddhist monks

Is the world's largest democracy also becoming the largest source of extreme Hindu nationalism?

Islamophobia, it turns out, can be intersectional, too.

Hindu extremists are watching with glee as radical[terrorist] monks in Myanmar's Rakhine region, along with the country’s army, are engaged in a fast-track ethnic cleansing campaign targeting the country’s Rohingya Muslim minority.

    The reason?

They see Buddhism as an “Indic religion” – i.e. a religious tradition that originated in India – and admire the muscular version of the faith being applied so cruelly toward Muslims. This, after all, is what they aspire to do to India’s Muslims, and have done to some extent in pogroms that have taken place virtually every decade since India’s independence.

On social media, Hindutva extremists in India and even in the West are literally calling for the murder of the Rohingya. They spread fake news to depict the imperilled community as a threat to India’s cohesion and security. But India’s anti-Rohingya campaign isn’t restricted to an online army of trolls. It goes to the very top of the country’s leadership.

New Delhi is moving to deport the estimated 40,000 Rohingya Muslims
, even as they flee for their lives.

India’s home minister – the top internal security official – has asserted that the Rohingya are “illegal immigrants,” not refugees. Indian security forces have mobilised along their border with Bangladesh and Myanmar to thwart the influx of Rohingya Muslims.

India’s ruling BJP and Hindutva extremists have been stoking anti-Rohingya sentiment
. In April, a Hindutva extremist in the Jammu region occupied by India threatened to “identify and kill” Rohingya residing in the area, far from the border with Bangladesh and Myanmar. Within a week, a Rohingya family was attacked and the modest shelters the Rohingya called home were destroyed.

The BJP-linked Republic and Times Now—the two channels that dominate India’s English-language TV news market—have engaged in a relentless anti-Rohingya propaganda campaign
. They promote hashtags like #RohingyaTerrorExposed and #SendRohingyasBack.

Arnab Goswami, the loud, pompous host of India’s most-watched English news program, has been particularly cruel. He has asserted that the “Rohingyas have to go” and “India [is] for the Indians.” As the bodies of Rohingya children wash up on the shores of Bangladesh, Goswami said: “Let them be floating around [in] a boat in the Indian Ocean.”

Some of this may have to do with the politics of West Bengal, one of the last Indian states where the BJP has yet to gain a foothold. Since the spring, the BJP has tried to radicalize the Hindu population and pit them against the state’s Muslims. In April, BJP President Amit Shah kicked off the party’s campaign in West Bengal by decrying the state government as anti-Hindu and speaking out against so-called Muslim "appeasement."

During normally peaceful Hindu festivals, Hindu extremist groups have handed out swords to children. Violent Hindu groups are on a massive recruitment drive and BJP elements have actively tried to incite Hindu-Muslim violence to consolidate the Hindu vote.

India’s anti-Rohingya hysteria points towards a larger issue: that of the direction in which India is going.

The country’s poor have been hit by consecutive bad policymaking by New Delhi. First, in November 2016, Narendra Modi announced that the 500 and 1,000 rupee bills would be taken out of circulation. Indians had less than two months to deposit the bills into their bank accounts and only a few weeks to exchange them for new bills. Then, in July of this year, the government rolled out the goods and services tax, placing more businesses under the tax net. The effects on small and medium enterprises, the farmers, and the poor has been disastrous.

All this comes as India’s economic growth continues to slide. Growth this past quarter was 5.7 percent — the lowest in three years. Jobs growth remains dismal. Manufacturing is in decline. And so, as the economy underperforms and the lives of many poor people are devastated, Modi—once seen as an economic magician—is reverting to the old, tried and tested trick up his sleeves: stoking hatred for Muslims.

The international community does a disservice to vulnerable communities in South Asia when it glowingly depicts India as a beacon of tolerance and multiculturalism
. The reality is that the India of today has elected a man as its prime minister who presided over the slaughter of over a thousand Muslims in Gujarat state in 2002 — a man who then compared the slain Muslims to a puppy hit by a car, and referred to Muslim displacement camps, filled with rape survivors, as “baby-making centres.”

This year, Modi appointed as chief minister of the largest state, a Hindu monk who said: “If one Hindu girl marries a Muslim man, then we will take 100 Muslim girls in return.” That monk, Yogi Adityanath, is widely rumoured as a potential successor to Modi after the next general elections.

India’s media does not condemn these men for their hate. Instead, they are described as “rock stars.”
Creeping Hindu chauvinism combined with an unprincipled corporate media have desensitised Indians to the pervasive hate in their country.

In Narendra Modi’s “New India,” Indian Muslims and now Myanmar's Rohingya have paid a price simply for being who they are.
Soon India will have the world’s largest population. It aspires to be a great power, if not a superpower. Who will be the next target of its caravan of hate?

Hindu boyfriend Rapes girl with friends, shares video on social media

    September 28, 2017

In a disturbing development, a sadist boyfriend from Andhra Pradesh has recorded his act of molestation of a girl with his friends before sharing the video on social media platforms.

The police have arrested all three accused Karthik, Sai and Pawan. The incident took place on the outskirts of Kanigiri town in Prakasam district of Andhra Pradesh. In the video, the victim makes desperate pleas by begging and screaming as her attackers made every attempt to undress and rape her.

In the video, the victim can be heard pleading to let her go but to no avail. One of the female friends of the accused too tried to intervene, but her pleas too fell on the deaf ears.

According to police, the incident took place in August but the authorities intervened after the video began to be widely shared on Facebook and WhatsApp.

According to complaint, the victim had gone on a picnic with her boyfriend and his two other male accomplices. Also joining them were two female friends of the accused.

It was reportedly a conspiracy by the boys to take the girl away to a deserted location for her to be sexually assaulted. The girl was in a relationship with Sai, her boyfriend. However, Karthik, who was not happy with the girl’s new relationship was allegedly keen to take a revenge.

“As police officers we are doing our bit to control such things. If such cases are reported we will counsel them and not reveal their identity, “police officer Subba Rao was quoted by NDTV.

He added, “Parents and teachers should keep a check on their children. We initiated some awareness programs in colleges. Movies and films are influencing them a lot.”

Police Arrest 3 Youth Who Molested a Girl, Filmed it

    by Sakshi Khanna - September 26, 2017

The Andhra Pradesh police on Tuesday arrested three youth after they molested a girl, filmed the incident, and then circulated the video.

The incident occurred in August in Andhra Pradesh's Prakasam district, but it came to light only after the video went viral recently.

The other woman, seen in the video, was a friend of the victim, who was trying to save the girl and is now a witness in the case.

The police took suo-motu cognizance of the matter, registered a case and arrested the accused. The police said that the girl was in a relationship with the accused and decided to end it when things went downhill.

"The boy then, also accompanied by his friends, took the girl to the outskirts of the city and molested her and filmed the incident," police said.

    By Chris Bell - 10/4/2017

The Taj Mahal has been controversially excluded from an Uttar Pradesh tourism booklet.

The booklet, issued by the tourism department, was not intended to be a promotional brochure, but the omission of one of the seven wonders of the modern world has nonetheless sparked anger and bemusement.

Journalists, politicians and activists were among those who took to social media to decry the 17th Century mausoleum's absence.

The popular tourist attraction, located in the Agra district of Uttar Pradesh, has been mentioned on Twitter more than 12,000 times in the last 24 hours.

The booklet has been released six months into Hindu nationalist Yogi Adityanath's tenure as chief minister of India's most populous state.

It details ongoing and future tourism projects and mentions a number of famous tourist destinations, including a temple in Gorakhpur where Mr Adityanath is the main priest.

But Mr Adityanath's views on the Taj Mahal have previously been questioned. In June, he reportedly said the monument "did not reflect Indian culture".

The Taj Mahal was built by the Muslim Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his favourite wife Mumtaz Mahal.

"Taj Mahal is no longer a tourist destination. Unesco should declare Yogi Adityanath's Gaushala (cow shelter) in Gorakhpur as a world heritage site," journalist Prerna Bakshi tweeted.

"The Yogi government has defamed our country's heritage by removing Taj Mahal from [the] tourism list," YouTuber Dhruv Rathee said. "Would be a butt of all jokes in international media".

"Absolutely foolish of Yogi Adityanath to create a controversy around Taj Mahal," said academic and writer Madhu Kishwar. "Such political immaturity doesn't behove a CM [chief minister]."

Avanish Awasthi, an Uttar Pradesh tourism department official, clarified the regional government's position.

"The booklet was released only for the purposes of a press conference and is not a guide to Uttar Pradesh's tourism spots," he told NDTV. "It mentions new and upcoming projects of the Uttar Pradesh tourism department, and new focus areas."

In a series of tweets, the official Utter Pradesh government account claimed that money has also been set aside to fund development proposals for the Taj Mahal.

These Hindus falsely claim that this (too) was a site of a Hindu temple that Muslims built over. The supreme court rejected their claim, but not their not satisfied.

Hindu Temples Where Non-Hindus Are Not Allowed

The authorities have decided against entry to people following other faiths without prior permission citing security concerns and protection of 'sanctity' of the religious place. There are several other famous temples across India that disallow non-Hindus to enter their place of worship, Here's list of some of them.

    1. Guruvayur Temple

This temple located in the town of Guruvayur in Kerala permits only Hindus to enter the worship place dedicated to the god Krishna. Considered one of the most important temples in Kerala and one of the five famous Krishna/Vishnu temples in India, it follows a strict dress code. Men have to remove their shirt and wear a mundu. Women are allowed to wear only sarees and girls have to wear a skirt and blouse. Several temples in Kerala have signs saying that non-Hindus are denied entry.

    2. Jagannath Temple

Only Orthodox Hindus are allowed’, reads a signboard hanging from the Lion's Gate of the Sri Jagannath Temple in Puri. The temple is an important pilgrimage destination for many Hindu traditions and part of the Char Dham pilgrimages that a Hindu is expected to make in one's lifetime.

In the past a number of dignitaries, including former prime minister Indira Gandhi, had not been allowed to enter the 12th century shrine because she had married a Parsi, Feroze Gandhi. In 2005, the Queen of Thailand Mahachakri Siridharan was not allowed inside the temple as she was a follower of Buddhism.

In 2012, an American, Noel Magee Hayden, was beaten up by temple security personnel when he attempted to climb 'Nandighosh', the chariot of Lord Jagannath during the world famous Rath Yatra.

In 2006, the shrine did not allow a citizen of Switzerland named Elizabeth Jigler, who had donated Rs. 1.78 crore to the temple because she was a Christian.

    3. Kashi Vishwanath Temple

Located in Varanasi, the temple stands on the western bank of the holy river Ganga, and is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, the holiest of Shiva temples. The gleaming gold spires give it the name, Golden Temple. Non-Hindus are not allowed inside the temple. On the northern side of Vishwanath Temple is the Gyan Kupor well. Non-Hindus are strictly not allowed to enter here.

    4. Lingaraj Temple

The temple is the most prominent landmark of the Bhubaneswar city and one of the major tourist attractions of the state. The temple has an average of 6,000 visitors per day and receives lakhs of visitors during festivals. In 2012, a 35-year-old Russian tourist created quite a flutter after entering the 11th century temple that is off limits to non-Hindus. Rituals at the temple were disrupted for nearly four hours following the foreigner's entry. Priests performed a purification ritual and dumped the Lord's cooked prasad worth above Rs 50,000, sources said.

    5. Padmanabhaswamy Temple

The temple, which has references in Epics and Puranas, was built in the 16th Century by the kings who ruled over the then kingdom of Travancore. Local legends say the Travancore kings sealed immense riches within the thick stone walls and vaults of the temple. It is said to be the richest Hindu temple in the world. Emergence of the temple as one of the richest Hindu shrines in the world has also thrown up security concerns with police as an interim step deploying two platoons of armed personnel. According to the temple sources, the treasure trove has been so far estimated at around Rs 90,000 crore. The number of foreigners visiting the temple has increased considerably, but unfortunately non-Hindus are not allowed inside.

    6. Kapaleeswarar Temple

Built around the 7th century CE in Dravidian architecture, this Shiva temple in located at Mylapore, in Tamil Nadu. Foreigners and non-Hindus are not allowed inside the sanctum sanctorum. The temple has numerous shrines, with those of Kapaleeshwarar and Karpagambal being the most prominent.

    7. Pashupatinath Temple

Located on the banks of the Bagmati River in Kathmandu, Nepal is a famous Hindu temple dedicated to Pashupatinath. The area of Pashupatinath encompasses 264 hectre of land including 518 temples and monuments. Entry into the inner courtyard is strictly monitored by the temple security, which is selective of who is allowed inside. Practicing Hindus and Buddhist of Indian and Tibetan descendant are only allowed into temple courtyard. Practicing Hindus of western descent are not allowed into the temple complex along with other non Hindu visitors.

    8. Kamakshi Amman Temple

Located in the historic city of Kanchipuram in Tamil Nadu, the Kamakshi Amman Temple is dedicated to Kamakshi, one of the forms of the goddess Parvati. The temple is situated at about 5 acres of land and has four entrances but is off-limits for non-Hindus.

    9. Dilwara Temples

The five legendary marble temples of Dilwara are a sacred pilgrimage place of the Jains. Some consider them to be one of the most beautiful Jain pilgrimage sites in the world. Facilities are available for bathing, which is mandatory before puja is performed for the idols. There are five temples in all, each with its own unique identity. Each is named after the small village in which it is located. The most famous of these are the Vimal Vasahi and Luna Vasahi temples. Photography at this exquisite global cultural heritage site was banned in 1992 and it is also off-limits for non-Hindus.

    comments:

Hindus criticize Muslims for not allowing them to enter the Holy cities of Makkah and Madina. But forget that there are at least 9 Hindu Temples in India where Non-Hindus are not allowed to enter. Heck, they don't even allow Hindus to enter in some of them.

India worse than Nepal, Bangladesh in tackling hunger, down 3 ranks globally: Report

India, ranked 100th of 119 nations in 2017 Global Hunger Index, is last among the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) group of emerging nations.

With more than a fifth (21%) of its children wasted — low weight for height — India ranks 100 of 119 countries in the 2017 Global Hunger Index (GHI), down three places from 97 last year.

Only in three other countries — Djibouti, Sri Lanka and South Sudan — are more than 20% of children wasted.

India ties with Djibouti and Rwanda for the 100th rank, and with a score of 31.4 of 100 (with 0 being best and 100 the worst), India’s 2017 GHI falls at the high end of the “serious” category.

Published by the International Food Policy Research Institute, with Concern Worldwide, an Irish aid agency, and Welthungerhilfe, a German private aid organisation, the GHI tracks hunger worldwide, focussing on countries where hunger is an urgent issue.

India’s wasting rate has not substantially improved over the last 25 years, even though the child stunting rate has improved over this period.

“Given that three-quarters of South Asia’s population resides in India, the situation in that country strongly influences South Asia’s regional score,” the 2017 GHI report said.

India has scaled up two national programmes addressing nutrition — the Integrated Child Development Services and the National Health Mission — but these do not yet reach enough people, the report said.

Three concerns for child nutrition in India

The GHI report comes after the latest 2015-16 National Family Health Survey (NFHS) and cities three points of concern for child nutrition from the NFHS.

First, the availability of solid food with breast milk for young children (when they transition from exclusive breastfeeding) declined from 52.7% to 42.7%.

Second, the proportion of children between six and 23 months who received an adequate diet was 9.6%.

Third, no more than 48.4% of households had access to improved sanitation facilities; sanitation is an important factor in improving nutrition.

The GHI score is calculated based on undernourishment, child wasting, child stunting and child mortality. India’s GHI score improved from 46.2 in 1992 to 31.4 in 2017.

Yet, of Indian children under five, one in three (35.7%) is underweight, one in three (38.4%) is stunted and one in five (21%) is wasted, according to 2015-16 NFHS.

India last among BRICS; Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh do better

India is last among the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) group of emerging nations.

Of India’s neighbours in South Asia, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh are doing better than India, while Pakistan and Afghanistan are doing worse.

Rajasthan: 200 Muslims flee from their village after Upper Caste ‘terror’ shadowed

Religious healer Ramesh Suthar assaulted folk singer Amad Khan for singing ‘bad song’ during navratri, he claimed Goddess abandoned him because of his song, Khan was later found dead and Upper Caste Hindus threatened the family not to complain the police

Rajasthan: A large exodus of people nearly 200-odd Muslim people, including women and children, are living under police protection in homes of their relatives at Balad, about 20 km from their village Dantal in Jaisalmer district, reported Hindustan Times. This exodus was of targeting minority community in a BJP ruled state, where a cattle trader from Haryana, Pehlu Khan, was lynched in April by a cow protection vigilante group.

Police said on friday, “About twenty Muslim families left their village in western Rajasthan following alleged threats from Hindu upper caste villagers, in a string of events starting with the murder of a folk singer”

The issue began from on September 27, at the Jaisalmer village during a Navratri function in a village temple, where folk musician Amad Khan, 45 belonging to a folk artist community known as Langa Maganiyaar performed religious songs, a tradition in Dantal, about 700 km from state capital Japiur.

Police said a village faith healer, Ramesh Suthar, asked Khan to sing a particular raga so that the spirit of the temple goddess enters his body, one of the so-called miracles traditional occultists claim they can perform and also added that Suthar used to prescribe cures to various problems of the local people, attributing the solutions to the spirit of the goddess. Suthar also blamed khan for his poor singing which led goddess abandon him on that day. A local police officer said “He (Suthar) broke Khan’s musical instruments and also assaulted him.”

Khan’s younger brother Suge Khan said “The same night, Suthar with two others allegedly kidnapped Khan from his home and later, my brother’s body was thrown outside the house.”

Abruptly on next day the elders of dominant Hindu community threatened khan’s family not to lodge complaint and by listening to this Suge khan said “We got scared and buried his body quietly,”

However they gathered all the courage with their external family members staying outside village and assured them of help. With this they lodged the complaint and meanwhile Ramesh Suthar and other upper caste villagers ordered the Muslims to leave the village. Suge Khan said “they threatened us that if we did not leave the village they will kill us. After that about 20 families consisting around 200 members have left the village and took shelter at nearby Balad village in our relative’s house,”

Dantal village sarpanch Khet Singh disclaimed the allegations of threat, saying Adam Khan died due to cardiac arrest. Adding to it villagers only suggested to his family that since it was a natural death & it should not be taken to police, he said, adding when the people refused to accompany Khan’s family to register the case, the Muslims left in anger.

“Along with sub-divisional officer, I met them yesterday and tried to convince them (to return)…some anti-social elements are trying to disturb the harmony.” However, police said prima facie Khan died due to physical assault.

Jaisalmer superintendent SP Gaurav Yadav said they were trying to convince the Muslims to return.

SP Gaurav Yadav said “We have assured them of protection if they want to return…We have also spoken to village elders and told them that cases would be lodged if they threaten the Muslims,”

Police said “They arrested Ramesh Suthar on October 4 but two of his accomplices are absconding and the body of Khan was exhumed and an autopsy conducted and lastly said that the Muslims have only lodged a murder complaint but refrained from officially accusing anyone of threat and intimidation.”

Muslim Woman Gang-Raped In Front Of Husband, Child In UP's Muzaffarnagar

In Muzaffarnagar, four men gang-raped the woman after tying up her husband. The infant cried through her ordeal.

    by Alok Pandey - October 07, 2017

A 30-year-old woman in Uttar Pradesh was gang-raped by four men in front of her husband and their three-month-old baby, the police said. The woman and her husband, 35, had taken their baby to a pediatrician and were returning home on a motorbike in Muzaffarnagar when they were waylaid by four men, who were carrying weapons, in a car. They stopped them, snatched the baby from her and beat up the man. Then they dragged the woman to a sugarcane field.

The men took turns to rape her after tying up her husband. They threatened to kill the infant who cried through her ordeal. After they were done, they warned the couple against raising an alarm and fled, police said.

"Four men dragged me to a sugarcane farm and raped me at gun-point. They threatened to kill my child, also tied and beat up my husband," the woman alleged according to news agency ANI.

The family screamed for help and a few farmers from a nearby village rushed to rescue them.

The police were informed and the cops took the family to the hospital for treatment and her medical examination. A search for the accused is on, a senior police officer said.

"We are waiting for her medical report. A case has been registered against the four and investigation is underway," said Ajay Sahdev, SP Rural, Muzaffarnagar.

Rape of 10-yr-old in Chandigarh: Both uncles assaulted girl, DNA test proves younger fathered baby

The rape victim gave birth to a girl at the Government Medical College and Hospital in Chandigarh’s Sector 32 in August.

    by Aneesha Bedi - Oct 10, 2017

The child born to a 10-year-old Chandigarh rape victim was fathered by her younger maternal uncle and not his elder brother as initially suspected, police said on Tuesday, basing it on a fresh DNA report.

Though the elder uncle too allegedly raped the girl and was arrested, police investigations hit a wall three weeks ago when his DNA samples did not match with those of the newborn.

On September 11, HT had exclusively reported that the DNA report of the elder uncle was negative and that the ‘paternity of the accused was excluded’ from the case.

Later, the police arrested his younger brother following a statement from the girl accusing him of rape, and sought the court’s permission to re-match the DNA samples.

Police produced the fresh report, prepared by the central forensic science laboratory (CFSL) laboratory, Mohali, in the court of additional district and sessions judge, Poonam R Joshi. The report surmised that the younger uncle was the father of the newborn.

The blood samples of the two brothers had been sent for DNA tests along with samples of a few other neighbours. Police sources said had others also raped the girl, they would have been arrested by now.

A senior police officer said, “While the main accused (elder uncle) had also raped the victim, it is clear that the father of the baby is the younger uncle.”

Investigating officer in the case, Gurjeet Kaur, said a supplementary challan will be submitted before the court by Tuesday evening.

The Supreme Court had asked the laboratory to expedite the process of matching the DNA samples.

The rape victim gave birth to a girl at the Government Medical College and Hospital in Chandigarh’s Sector 32 in August.

According to sources, the girl was told she had a stone in her stomach that had to be removed. The Supreme Court had refused to allow the rape victim to undergo an abortion due to a risk to her life.

Teenager Tortured and Gang-Raped for Days and Then Left for Dead

Delhi's unknown Nirbhaya: Horrifying story of teenager who was tortured and gang-raped for days and then left for dead in Haryana

    By Mansi Tewari - 7 February 2014

Her terrible gang-rape and fiendish murder didn't spark raging protests in the Capital.

No laws were amended because of what she went through. Nobody gave her a name, or instituted a public fund in its memory.

This 19-year-old was no Nirbhaya but the horror she went through was as bad, if not worse. And it all happened almost a year before the travesty of December 16, 2012 that consumed the nation.

We're not going to give her a name, but this is her story.

The father didn't want her named or picture published.

This horror began in Outer Delhi on the evening of February 9, 2012; the brutalised remains were found in a field in Rewari, Haryana, four days later.

She was returning home after work.

Talking with three other woman colleagues as they approached their homes, she could have had no idea of the evil that was about to take her in its grip.

A red Indica car pulled over sharply.

There were three men in it, and their intentions were clearly hostile.

Her colleagues panicked, but she rebuked the men, telling them in no uncertain terms to leave.

The three men, all in their 20s, dragged her into their car and sped away.

For the next three days, they raped her in mustard fields they drove her to.

Through these three days, they constantly beat her up, burnt her with cigarette butts, mutilated her eyes and face with screwdrivers, inserted a broken liquor bottle in her private parts, poured acid over her eyes and her face, and finally left her to die.

    Abduction

Death must have been a welcome release, but it can't be said how long her suffering lasted.

In any case, the terribly mutilated body was discovered by the police on the fourth day after the abduction.

There's no pointing out the worst part of such a horror story, but one of those certainly is the fact that justice has not been served in the case.

Sunday, February 9, will mark exactly two years since this ghastly incident.

Her family hasn't given up trying though.

"I was in Agra attending to an ailing relative when one of my neighbours called me to inform that my daughter had been abducted by three men. She was just a few metres away from our home when this happened. She and her friends had been dropped off by a bus around 8.30 pm. From there they were walking towards home. I rushed to Delhi," said the victim's father.

"Once I reached Delhi, I witnessed absolute police apathy. The neighbours had called the police and asked them to follow the car. The cops however, stood there and said we must get them a car first and then they would follow," he said.

The neighbours then got together and staged a protest to exert pressure on the cops.

Even then, it took them three days to arrest suspects. The accused are named Rahul, Vinod and Ravi.

All were residents of the same locality and had just been released from Tihar after doing time in connection with a robbery case.

The case hasn't been fast-tracked; it has been transferred from one court to another three times already. The verdict is expected on February 13.

"The police came two hours late and then asked for conveyance and a mobile phone," the father said.

"The police also found paper plates, munchies and beer bottles at the spot of the crime, which showed that the girl was alive as they kept her captive and raped her repeatedly in the open," said Anita Gupta, a social worker who is helping the family in the court case.

The victim's father was a peon; he's had to give up his job in order to deal with the case. He comes to Jantar Mantar every day to light lamps in memory of his daughter.

"Then chief minister Sheila Dikshit gave Rs 1 lakh compensation. It's simply not enough," said Gupta.

Fake Social Media Profiles With Muslim Identities To Bolster BJP

    Case Study 1 (Gini Khan – @giniromet)

    By Pratik Sinha - 1st May 2017

A Muslim name. That too a woman. Celebrates the recent success of Yogi Adityanath and constantly appreciates the ‘greatness’ of PM Modi. Very critical of Muslims. Repeatedly brands the entire Muslim community as extremist. Blind nationalism. Wouldn’t that be a dream come true for the entire right-wing? Enter Gini Khan. Claims to be an atheist who lives in Canberra, Australia. Ticks all the boxes, the number of retweets she gets shows how popular she is in the right-wing ecosystem.

    https://i1.wp.com/www.altnews.in/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/gini-khan-tweets1.jpg

Gini Khan indeed says all the things that a person from the BJP camp would love to hear. A modern woman with a Muslim name who claims to have shunned religion and is saying these things, no wonder the right-wingers can’t help but press the retweet button. However, does this person who is known by her handle @giniromet in the Twitter world also exist in the real world? We’re about to find out.

Gini Khan claims that the woman in the pictures above is herself. We did a little bit of reverse google image searching and this is what we found. The picture on the left is from a photo shoot of an actress called Sana Khan who had also been a ‘Big Boss’ contestant. The picture that Gini Khan has put up on her Twitter account has been taken from Sana Khan’s Instagam account.

The picture on the right is also in fact Sana Khan and has been picked up from a website called All Cine Gallery.

    https://i2.wp.com/www.altnews.in/wp-...4_2017_018.jpg

In fact, she has stolen pictures of not just Sana Khan but other unsuspecting women as well. One Priya Menon found to her horror that her pictures are being passed of as those of Gini Khan.

    https://i2.wp.com/www.altnews.in/wp-...5_2017_012.jpg

Okay, so Gini Khan hasn’t been truthful about her real appearance. But there are so many on social media who do not use their real pictures. That doesn’t mean that Gini Khan is not a real person. After all, we live in the world of Instagram filters.

Let us look at her next claim which is that she lives in Canberra, Australia. To give credence to this, she regularly tweets about Australia. But a little bit of deep Twitter searching would reveal that the multiple times when she tweets about Australia, she’s actually been plagiarizing other people’s tweets.

    https://i1.wp.com/www.altnews.in/wp-...ia-Tweet-2.jpg
    https://i2.wp.com/www.altnews.in/wp-...ia-Tweet-1.jpg

In fact, if you look up Facebook’s database of publicly searchable profiles, only four people with the first name Gini come up and none of them is a Khan.
